More than 1,000 protests against the policies of the Trump Administration are set for this Saturday across the country, with 50 planned in Washington alone. The "Hands Off" protests are sponsored by a coalition of dozens of civil rights, environmental, education, social justice and labor groups.

Sami Perry, a protest organizer in Spokane, said is especially concerned about cuts to education, social security and Medicaid. Perry adds protests are organized for urban areas as well as small towns, including Pullman and Chewelah.

"I believe that it is really important for our nation to come together," she explained. "We the people have the power to make a difference, and its going to take all of us."

President Donald Trump says his policies are intended to save money, fight crime and support the domestic oil and gas industry. The protest in Spokane has 1,700 confirmed attendees, Perry said, adding that Saturday could be the largest protest in the country's history. Hunter Dunn, press and public relations director with the grassroots group 5051, which stands for "50 protests in 50 states, one movement," said large-scale protests over a sustained period will slow down the Trump administration's priorities - and motivate people to make their voices heard at polls going forward.

"In 2026 and 2028, all the people that are in the streets, they will vote in pro-democracy candidates that are in favor of affordable housing, universal health care, workers rights, any policies that actually make a difference in the lives of the average American," he contended.

The Women's March, Physicians for Social Responsibility and the AFL-CIO are some of the groups involved in the protests.
